Reinvention

Hello all,

The first post of the Lacquer Legion's challenge is called Reinvention. For this challenge, I took this theme two ways. First, as using a colour combination I used in the past in a different way; and second, as putting my own spin on an already existing nail art technique :). This is what happened:

I chose two colours I have not used in a while: China Glaze's Tart-y for the Party and Coconut Kiss. Then I decided to try them in a different way in my first ever Ruffian Manicure. I applied a coat of Tart-y for the Party and then a coat of Coconut Kiss on top. around the edge I added some sparkle with OPI's Servin' Up Sparkle with a detailing brush. Then I sealed the whole design with top coat.

In the days before I began this blog, I used these colours together by stamping with them or by using one of the colours as an accent nail with the other. In both of these examples Tart-y for the Party is the major colour used. It was nice to finally see the full beauty of Coconut Kiss.

Gold and Berry Gradient

Hello all,

Last week, my mom surprised me with some OPI polishes she found at a dollar store! The bottle of polish I received (Congeniality Is My Middle Name) was only $3! I had to try it and thought it would look lovely with ORLY's Luxe, so after 2 coats of Congeniality Is My Middle Name, I sponged on a gradient of Luxe. Here's the result:

These colours go very nicely together and I will have to try stamping with them soon. What do you think?

My next post will be on January 27th for the Lacquer Legion's "Reinvention" challenge, so stop by and have a look!

Palate Cleanser

Hello all,

This week, I wanted to get out of all the Christmas colours and polishes and cleanse my palate with a nude manicure.

For this manicure, I applied one coat of China Glaze's Inner Beauty followed by a coat of OPI's Pirouette My Whistle and a second coat of Inner Beauty to sandwich the glitter. I really like this soft look, but I get bored with looks like this quickly.

OPI's Serena Williams Glam Slam Duo

Hello all,

Another set of polishes I received for Christmas this year was the Serena Williams Glam Slam duo which included Rally Pretty Pink and Red Shatter. This is the second set in that collection. I was a bit skeptical of how these two polishes would look together, but it actually looks really pretty!
This is Rally Pretty Pink on its own, it is packed with gold glitter!

Here is the duo complete with top coat!
Under the red shatter polish, the pink polish looks like a gold shimmer polish, which really compliments the shatter's shade.

For this manicure, I used 2 coats of Rally Pretty Pink with 1 coat of Red Shatter and then added top coat to seal it all in :).

New Years Mani 2013

Hello all,

For my New Years manicure, I wanted to use something new that sparkled, so I decided to try out my new holographic polish from China Glaze called Gamer Glam. For the accent nail, I wanted to try out the third of my holiday texture polishes from OPI called Emotions.

The holographic effect in this polish is scattered and not as strong as most, but it is still a beautiful polish! I applied this with a regular base coat and used two coats. The texture polish also needed two coats to be fully opaque.

The holographic polish with indirect lighting.

What do you think? Did any of you have a polish from this China Glaze collection?

Pretty Essie Duo Manicure

Hello all,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, too! I received 12 nail polishes for Christmas this year and I wanted to do a "12 days of Christmas" type of thing with a different polish each day. Unfortunately with my first manicure I thought it was too nice to remove the day after I applied it.

This Essie duo came with Turquoise and Caicos and Jazzy Jubilant, it also came with a glass file, but I haven't used that yet. I applied 2 coats of Turquoise and Caicos on all of my nails. It was very streaky on the first coat, but that was fixed with the second coat. Unfortunately, this polish bubbled up once it dried. I don't know if that's because of the short time between coats and it not being completely dry or if it was just how this polish is, I will have to give it another try later. I applied 2 coats of Jazzy Jubilant to my ring finger. I would love to try and fill out an entire nail with this beautiful glitter. It has good glitter payoff and the different colours in the polish could go with a number of different polishes besides the one it came with.

Overall, I really like this duo and I hope that the polish behaves more the next time I use it.
